Good-Bye, Clovie Boy

My little muse is gone. It saddens me greatly.
It pains me to walk by his empty room. I miss touching his soft fur, kissing the top of his head.

As I thought back on the nine years he was with me I realized how much he affected my life. He brought me so much joy, inspired my creativity, connected me to a worldwide community of bunny lovers and artists. Isn't it remarkable that a small, quiet, gentle animal could do so much for a human? I will always be grateful for what he did for me.

At his passing, a friend wrote, "Love lives on". This brings me comfort knowing that even though he is gone, my love for him is forever.

Good-bye, Clovie. Miss you. See you on the other side.

Happy Easter!

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where my bunny is?

Have a wonderful Easter!

Hide and Treat

On the weekends I give Clovis free run of the house and when I go upstairs to take my shower, he is nowhere to be found. I have discovered his hiding place. You know how sometimes the covers of your bed slip down the end of the bed and onto the floor? Cozy.

This hiding spot is purely tactical. When I am dressed and ready to head downstairs he runs out, circling crazily under foot, reminding me that he should have a treat, just like every week day as I leave for work.

Moving Day

We are getting our house ready to sell. That means we needed to make Clovie's room look like the office that it is. So this weekend we moved him upstairs to my art room. It's a cozy room at the top of the stairs with a bay window and he settled right in. The challenge will be keeping him cool in the summer since this room gets the afternoon sun. Sometimes a fan in the window just isn't enough. He may get the portable air conditioner.

With any luck the house will sell quickly and we can move him back to the office, which stays pretty cool all summer.

Changes

September is a time of change.  That gentle shift from summer to fall, kids going back to school. For me personally, this September marks a change in my status from employed to unemployed.

"Position eliminated due to merger."  That's what I write on my job applications.  And as I scroll through the job listings on multiple sites each day looking for those with my skill sets I wonder, is now a time for a change? Could I possibly find something more creative?

I can't know what my future is but for now I remain open minded and positive and savor every minute of my job free days. I begin each day sitting with Clovie with my cup of Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea and the paper, planning my day while he eats his breakfast. Then he'll let me pet him for awhile until I start tugging at those tufts of fur that are begging to be pulled. He turns to me, growls and scampers off and reluctantly, so do I.

Bright Eyes

My bright-eyed sweet boy.
I just want to pick him up and squeeze him. Of course, he won't let me...

Pedicure

Back for another tooth trim and pedicure on this beautiful, sunny Spring like day.  And how many people does it take to trim Clovie's toenails?  Three.
One to hold his butt up in the air, one to trim with the Pedipaws, and one to take the picture.

Rebuffed

I CANNOT resist pulling those little tufts of fur that stick out when Clovis is moulting (and it seems he is forever moulting).  He really does not like it and runs off when I do.  This is the indignant look and stance I get:

STOP THAT !
The thing is, somewhere in the back of my mind I think I recall Bunnits saying she could spin yarn out of Clovis fur if I saved it and I thought what a nice memento that would be, to wear a scarf or sweater as soft as Clovie, knitted from his fur. (Maybe Bunnits was spinning a yarn...) Anyway, I am filling a sandwich bag with fur I have sneakily collected.

Well, unfortunately he is on to me. If I even reach over to pet him he takes off. When I put his food dish down sometimes he shies away until he is sure I'm not going to touch him. What have I done? I feel terrible! I'm working on trying to reverse that and pet NICELY.

I wonder how much fur you need for a skein of yarn...

Am I nuts or what?

Day at the Spa

I did a little blog catching up today and it appears I am not the only one who either has not much to say or is too busy to say it. I view January as my month to hibernate and I am just now beginning to venture out of my winter cave.

This morning I took Clovis to the vet for his tooth and nail trim.  Instead of clipping his toenails, Dr. Heather used a sanding tool. I think it was a Pedi Paws.

It's got a rotating sander and runs on batteries.  Clovie didn't struggle at all except a little when she did his back feet. I think he sort of enjoyed the vibration. For a minute there he looked like he was going to fall asleep. It took longer but it worked great. Dr. Heather referred to his visit as more of a day at the spa. I do not think that is what Clovis was thinking.

Mango Nectar

Yes, we are still here...

Lickin' his plate
I seem to have developed a sensitivity to coffee (darn it...) so I sip a glass of juice when I sit with Clovie on weekend mornings. The first time I brought in my juice, Clovie's amazingly sensitive olfactory radar instantly picked up the sweet smell of my mango nectar. He was all over me in a second.

When he's not looking I pour a little puddle of juice on his plate for a treat.
He laps it right up...

Clovis was Here """

I would not classify Clovis as much of a chewer but he has left his little teethmarks on a few chosen items. For example, the rungs of the antique chair he sleeps under, or the filing cabinet that sits in the corner of his room.

The old mission oak rocker I bought back in the 70's.

This paperback, "Lucifer's Hammer", he selected from the bookshelf upstairs.

I don't mind the chewing unless it is
harmful to him or something that needs to remain toothmark free. I've caught him chewing on cords but I think he does it just to get my attention; he knows it's a no no.

The thing is, when he's gone, I am going to love seeing those little Clovie marks and remember him fondly.

Me? No, the cat did it...
